Education, health and care plans
What is an education, health and care plan (EHCP)?
An EHCP is the new method of assessing and providing care for children and young people with special educational needs.
When a behavioural, emotional or mental health concern is raised, a child or young person may already be receiving services as part of an EHCP. In this case, the EHCP will be updated at the annual review to reflect a child or young person’s behavioural, emotional or mental health needs.
If a child or young person has an identified key worker as part of their EHCP, this person will also be involved in the pathway and may act as the pathway coordinator.
If a child or young person is accessing services for behavioural, emotional or mental health needs and the need for an EHCP is identified, the Children and Young Person’s Behavioural and Emotional Health (CYP BEH) Team or pathway coordinator should support a referral for an EHCP.
Further information about EHCPs can be found on the Nottingham City Council website.
